¡Hola from El Sargento!
May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, a special Quinceañera, return visit by the Boys from the Basque Country ~ all in the first half of this month! The days are long and leisurely, and the weeks just seem to fly by here in sunny Baja. We had Linda’s 83 year old Uncle Jack and friend with us for a couple of weeks the end of April and are happy that we can now comfortably accommodate guests of all ages.
Sophie had her first outing in a panga while they were here. No huge fish caught at that time, but lots of fresh Cabrilla and Sierra, which made delicious ceviche and fish cooked al mojo de ajo – always a favorite!
Chay made a trip north to Las Animas for a few days with our group from the Basque Country where they encountered plenty of Wahoo, Pargos, Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, as well as Dolphin by the dozens. Those guys went home with huge grins and looking forward to next year’s visit. The first Wahoo of the season here in La Ventana Bay, was caught by John who was here with some fun friends from Colorado.
We still have a few spots left open in the first week of our Thetis Banks trips this fall. The dates for that week are October 27th to November 3rd. Check your calendar and see if that works for you. If you get your deposit in before June 1st, you will be able to take advantage of the 10% break on the cost. Last year’s trip was a blast and the feasts during the trip are still being talked about. :))
Chay is putting the finishing touches on the construction and our communal kitchen will be ready for you guys soon. The weather has been perfect lately. Not too hot during the day and a little cool at night and in the morning. Just the way we like it. All of our guest rooms include A/C and ceiling fans. We’ve added a large patio area with a great view of the Bay and Cerralvo Island. We invite you to plan a trip soon so we can share this awesome place with you!
Ciao for now,
Linda and Chay

For the most part, Yellowtail are gone now. Gone, definitely for the spearos. Good news is that we have been seeing and catching a few Wahoo and with the water still a little on the cold side, Pargos and Cabrilla can be found pretty much on any reef right now. Schools of small Amberjack (30-40 pound range) are also being found on top of pinnacles. Near shore the bite is on for Rooster Fish as well as the Sierra Mackerel. On the outside of the island Striped Marlin can be seen cruising the surface, and if you happen to have some live bait, luck can be on your side.
~ Cheers, Chay
